Young Investigators Award sponsored by Mars Inc.

 

One of the key objectives of the ECSS is the promotion of junior scientists and the fostering of state-of-the-art research. In this spirit the Young Investigators Awards, hosted by the annual ECSS congresses, are acknowledged international sport scientifc awards.

 

YIA participating regulations

  • Current ECSS member

  • Registered for the current ECSS congress

  • PhD student or equivalent or graduate less than 2 years after the PhD

  • No previous prize winner in the applied for category (oral/ poster)

  • Under the age of 32 at the time of the congress

  • Only one abstract has been submitted as first author to apply for the YIA

  • Verification (download will be available in early 2011) send in before the deadline of abstract submission

YIA reviewing criteria

  • 1. The work is original - ergo not published, or accepted for publication, at the time of the abstract submission deadline.

  • 2. The research has a relevance for sport and/or exercise and its effects on performance and/or health and/or aspects of well-being.

  • 3. The presentation (oral or poster) has been carefully prepared, is using appropriate and high quality visual means and is well organized/structured.

  • 4. High quality of technical presentation of oral or poster (delivery speed, clearly audible, varied tone, confident delivery, pointer use (oral only), correct use of scientific terminology).

  • 5. The background and relevance is clearly described.

  • 6. The work is innovative.

  • 7. The methodology is sound and the data are solid.

  • 8. There are quantitative data in the presentation, the study has enough power and appropriate statistical tests have been performed to underpin claims on significance.

  • 9. There is a clear conclusion or take home message at the end.

  • 10. The work either has a high impact for the area of research or has a potential future high impact (e.g. development of new methodologies that will generate new knowledge).

Jury

A jury, consisting of the ECSS Scientific Board and ECSS Scientific Committee, grants the awards based upon an oral or poster presentation.
