BIOSKETCH
Gisela Sjøgaard completed M.S. degrees in mathematics and physical
education and earned in 1979 her Ph.D. in muscle physiology at the faculty
of natural science and her Dr.Med.Sc. in 1990 at the faculty of medicine
at the University of Copenhagen. She was professor and head of the
department of physiology at the National Institute of Occupational Health
in Denmark, visiting professor at the University of Guelph, Canada and at
the University of Michigan, USA, and holds presently a professorship in
Sports and Health Sciences at University of Southern Denmark. She has
published more than 100 original papers in international peer reviewed
scientific journals as well as numerous educational publications. She has
participated actively with presentations at more than 180 conferences
including more that 60 invited lectures. Her main field of competence is
human exercise physiology with focus on muscle mechanics, metabolism and
fatigue. Special area of interest is biomechanics, neuromuscular control
and muscle biochemistry, as well as their applications to musculoskeletal
disorders.

Reviewer on manuscripts for more than 20 journals, and editor/editorial
board functions on 2 journals: European Journal of Applied Physiology and
Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology. Referee for a numerous Ph.D.
and doctoral theses, research positions (including professorships), grants
etc. nationally and internationally. At present member of 11 scientific
organizations and 2 research foundations.
DISSEMINATION OF RESEARCH
1975-2008 participated in more than 160 international congresses, symposia,
scientific meetings, lab. visits etc. and given over 120 presentations, of
which more than 55 invited lectures or key-note lectures. 1975-2008
published 148 major publications including 107 peer reviewed papers in
international journals, 33 books/book chapters, and 2 scientific theses.
About 25 of the publications are considered educational or informational.
