Congress Series > Belgrade/ Serbia 2005

The 10th anniversary of the ECSS Congress took place in Belgrade/ Serbia from 13-16 July 2005.  The local organisers and the ECSS succeeded in once again attracting more than 1.000 participants to the Congress.

An extraordinary social programme supplemented the excellent scientific programme. Great hospitality was a characteristic of the Congress, beginning with pick up services at airport and train stations and ending with volunteers who seemed to have the availability of reading one´s mind when lost in the impressively large Sava Centre or simply looking for a drink. Cultural activities of Balkan dances, jazz and lively Gypsy music was always follwed by a buffet leaving nothing to be desired. The final evening was accompanied by a truly international ECSS International Song contest, when the Jazz band accompanied any particpant willing to take a chance of singing a song from their country. Participants from Austria, Bulgaria, Japan, Turkey, Spain, Estonia, Serbia, Russia, Belgium etc. added a singing carrer to their scientific CV that evening, and it has been suggested to make this a further award contest within the ECSS apart from the YIA.

Overall the event was certainly worthy of celebrating 10 years of ECSS. And when during the closing ceremony the Congress President Nenad Dikic announced that Serbia would like to organise the 20th anniversary, he was greeted with warm welcome and applause. Our thanks go to the local Organising Team and all their volunteers!
