Today, the Academy is the largest graduate school of sport education in the United States and is the only accredited freestanding school of sport education in America, with a wide array of both post-secondary non-degree and degree sports education programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. The Academy is an independent, nonprofit, accredited, special mission sports university created to serve the nation and world with programs in instruction, research and service. The role of the Academy is to prepare men and women for careers in the profession of sports. The Academy publishes The Sport Journal, a peer reviewed online academic journal of sport that is free to readers.
